The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has distributed more than 45 million liters of white household fuel across Erbil Governorate as part of its annual winter support program. The distribution covers mountainous areas, surrounding districts, and now Erbil city center. The program aims to ensure stable access to heating fuel for families at a subsidized price.
As in previous years, the Ministry of Natural Resources continues to supply white household fuel to hundreds of thousands of families across the Kurdistan Region. The process began in mountainous and remote areas. It then expanded to the outskirts of Erbil. For the past several days, distribution has reached Erbil city center.
So far, authorities have delivered more than 38 million liters of white fuel to households in the mountainous areas and surrounding districts of Erbil Governorate. In addition, authorities have approved the distribution of another 7.5 million liters for residents living in the city center. Each eligible family receives 100 liters of fuel at a subsidized price of 31,000 Iraqi dinars.
Officials say the goal is to complete the process quickly while ensuring fair access for all registered households. The current 45 million liters phase focuses on urban neighborhoods, where demand usually increases during the peak winter season.
Nabaz Abdulhamid, District Commissioner of Central Erbil, said that the distribution process has entered a new phase this year.
“This year, white fuel is being distributed using a new and different mechanism compared to previous years. It is more practical, more efficient, and faster,” he said.
He explained that authorities have assigned full distribution responsibility to four fuel stations in Erbil and have already delivered the lists of eligible households to these stations. This system reduces congestion and speeds up delivery.
The District Commissioner also confirmed that strict control measures are in place. Authorities are closely monitoring fuel meters, fuel quality, and delivery volumes. Inspection teams carry out both regular and surprise visits to fuel stations.
These measures aim to prevent manipulation, ensure accurate measurements, and protect citizens from low-quality fuel.
After tightening penalties against fuel stations that violate regulations, the sale of adulterated or low-quality fuel has dropped significantly. As a result, officials report a better balance between fuel price and fuel quality this winter.
