The Kurdistan Region transferred more than 50 billion Iraqi dinars in non-oil revenues to the federal government in Baghdad, the Ministry of Finance and Economy announced on Sunday.
The ministry said it deposited April’s non-oil revenues into the federal Ministry of Finance account at the Erbil branch of the Central Bank of Iraq. Officials carried out the transfer as part of ongoing financial coordination between Erbil and Baghdad, which regulates revenue sharing and fiscal responsibilities.
According to the ministry, the total transfer reached 50,292,213,000 dinars. Officials explained that the Kurdistan Region collected this amount from local non-oil revenue sources during April. They then processed the funds through official banking channels before sending them to the federal treasury account.
The ministry stressed that this step follows legal and financial agreements between both sides. It also said the Region continues to meet its obligations under existing arrangements with the federal government. Authorities described the process as part of a broader effort to maintain transparency and cooperation in public finance management.
After completing the transfer, financial attention now shifts to salary funding for public employees. The federal Ministry of Finance is expected to request nearly 950 billion dinars from the Central Bank of Iraq to cover April salaries in the Kurdistan Region.
Once the Central Bank approves the request, it will send the funds to its Erbil branch. The money will then move into the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance account. After that step, the authorities will begin distributing salaries to public sector employees, usually within one day of receiving the funds.
This cycle of revenue transfer and salary allocation remains a key part of the financial relationship between Erbil and Baghdad.
