On April 20, 2025, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the export of agricultural and poultry products, as part of its broader economic development agenda. The announcement was made by Begard Talabani, the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, who outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing production and export capacity in the sector.
Begard Talabani stated that a new private company is being established to provide operational and financial support to private agricultural project owners. One of the company’s primary objectives will be to reduce production costs, particularly in the poultry industry, thereby strengthening the region’s ability to compete in international markets.
While the export of chicken meat is planned for the near future, Begard confirmed that egg exports have already commenced. This marks a significant milestone in the KRG’s ongoing efforts to promote domestic products abroad.
Under the leadership of its ninth cabinet, the KRG has achieved record levels of agricultural exports, with continued emphasis on policy measures that encourage private sector growth and market access. Begard’s announcement underscores the government’s strategy to diversify the regional economy through increased investment in agriculture and agro-industrial development.
