The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has successfully implemented road projects worth approximately 783.7 million dollars under its ninth cabinet. The Ministry of Construction and Housing has prioritized road development, aiming to modernize infrastructure and improve connectivity across the region.
Additionally, Deputy Minister Agreen Abdullah said that the ministry completed more than 750 road projects from the start of the ninth cabinet until the end of 2025. He said, “Our ministry has placed significant emphasis on the road sector within the agenda of the ninth cabinet. These projects are now fully operational and serve citizens across the Kurdistan Region.”
The completed roads span a total of 2,799 kilometers, covering key highways and rural routes. Officials highlighted that these projects reflect the KRG’s broader strategy to enhance traffic safety, strengthen regional connectivity, and boost economic activity.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated one of the major projects, the Erbil–Gomaspan highway. Therefore, the 16-kilometer dual carriageway was completed in less than a year. Built to international standards, it includes three lanes in each direction—two for traffic and one emergency lane. Reinforced asphalt layers make the road capable of withstanding heavy loads.
Moreover, officials emphasized that the highway improves access between Erbil, Gomaspan, and the Smaquli Valley. It also connects major routes to Koya and Sulaimani, while providing easier access to nearby tourist and recreational areas. The project demonstrates the KRG’s commitment to both public safety and regional development.
Abdullah stressed that road development remains a key pillar of the ninth cabinet’s agenda. “Investing in roads not only enhances transportation efficiency but also supports economic growth and public services,” he said.
The Ministry of Construction and Housing continues to focus on large-scale infrastructure expansion. With nearly $783.7 million invested in road projects, the KRG is steadily transforming transportation networks, improving safety standards, and fostering regional connectivity for citizens and businesses alike.
