The Kurdistan Region restored its full electricity supply after the recent Khor Mor gas field attack caused a major power drop across the region. Officials confirmed that gas flow to power plants has returned. They also said generation levels now operate normally. The rapid recovery reflects the sector’s growing resilience despite repeated security threats.
Ardalan Doski, Director General at the KRG Ministry of Electricity’s Diwan, said that gas deliveries resumed at full capacity. He said the electricity situation has stabilized across all stations. He stressed that the power supply works smoothly again. His comments came after the Khor Mor gas field attack triggered a sudden decline in available megawatts.
A day before the full restoration, a source told Kurdistan24 that engineers gradually reintroduced gas into the main network. The source explained that teams directed gas “step by step” back into the pipelines feeding the power plants. This cautious process allowed stations to restart safely. It also helped prevent further technical issues. Moreover, the phased restoration ensured that the national grid remained balanced throughout the recovery.
The Khor Mor gas field attack happened at 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 26. A joint statement from the KRG Ministries of Natural Resources and Electricity said the site was struck by a drone. Dana Gas, which operates the field, said the strike involved a missile. Both sides confirmed there were no casualties. However, the incident caused a rapid collapse in electricity production.
The attack cut output by nearly 80 percent across the Kurdistan Region. This massive drop underscored the gas field’s central role in the regional economy. Khor Mor supplies the gas that powers homes, factories, and key services. Therefore, the Khor Mor gas field attack disrupted daily life and economic activity. It also highlighted how a single energy source can influence broader economic stability.
Khor Mor, operated by UAE-based Dana Gas, has faced repeated drone attacks in recent months. These incidents have drawn strong condemnations from local leaders and international partners. They also increased concerns about economic security, investor confidence, and the sustainability of energy-related projects. The latest attack renewed calls for stronger protection of essential infrastructure.
With gas flow now restored, the KRG says it will work to support economic stability. Officials plan to strengthen the protection of all energy installations. They aim to prevent another Khor Mor gas field attack and maintain steady power for businesses and households. The government says the electricity sector remains a top priority for long-term growth.
Full power service under the Runaki program has now returned to normal. The KRG says it will continue safeguarding energy assets to support economic development and public confidence. The rapid recovery sends a message of economic resilience despite ongoing threats.
