Farmer support in Iraq is receiving new momentum this season. The government has allocated 500 billion Iraqi dinars to farmers in all provinces. Officials confirmed that the program aims to raise production, enhance food security, and protect the economy.

Commerce Minister Asir Daud Ghariri explained that this allocation came with direct approval from the prime minister. He described the decision as a clear sign of commitment to Iraqi farmers. According to him, the initiative will strengthen confidence and push farmers to expand their cultivated land.

In addition, Haider al-Garawi, director general of the General Company for Grain Trading, said the distribution will follow a fair and transparent mechanism. He noted that coordination with other agencies will guarantee equal access to this support. This step, he explained, is important for building trust with local producers.

Moreover, Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, Director General of Commerce in the Kurdistan Region, highlighted the regional progress. He confirmed that distribution has already started. However, he added that wheat in the Kurdistan Region arrives later than in central and southern Iraq, which caused some delay.

This year, the government received 400,000 tons of wheat from Kurdistan Region farmers. By comparison, Iraq received 5.3 million tons nationwide last year. In the current season, 4.3 million tons have been distributed across the provinces.

The initiative shows how farmer support in Iraq is tied to the wider strategy for food security. With financial backing, farmers can increase self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on imports. At the same time, stable production helps strengthen the domestic market.

By investing half a trillion dinars, the government confirms its long-term vision for the agricultural sector. Stronger farmer support in Iraq will secure future harvests, protect national supplies, and encourage more investment in local farming.
