Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw announced that the city’s 24-hour electricity project, called “Ronakî”, is on track to provide uninterrupted power to the entire governorate by mid-2026. This initiative represents a major step toward improving daily life. It will also ensure reliable energy access across neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, businesses, and public facilities.

Khoshnaw made the announcement during a special meeting at the Erbil Governorate headquarters. The meeting included key officials, such as Deputy Governor Heman Qader, Nawbaz Abdulhamid, Erbil district mayor, Bakhtiar Qasim, General Manager of Erbil Electricity, and directors of local electricity departments. They discussed progress, ongoing challenges, and strategies to expand the network efficiently.

Currently, 85% of the governorate benefits from continuous 24-hour electricity. Khoshnaw emphasized that once the project is fully implemented, every area in Erbil will enjoy uninterrupted power. He described the initiative as a critical infrastructure project with a direct impact on citizens’ daily lives. “Our responsibility goes beyond managing electricity,” he said. “We aim to secure public well-being and provide essential services reliably to every home and business in the governorate.”

During the meeting, officials also reviewed the operation of power plants, distribution networks, and ongoing maintenance. Furthermore, the governor stressed the importance of quickly resolving technical challenges. He called for infrastructure upgrades to minimize disruptions for residents. These discussions highlighted the administration’s commitment to efficiency, safety, and sustainability in energy delivery.

The Erbil electricity project has already produced significant results. On April 4, 2026, Kemal Mohammed, Iraq’s Minister of Electricity in Dohuk, reported that 85% of the electricity network now operates 24 hours a day. With continued technical improvements and coordinated management, authorities are confident that the remaining areas will be fully connected by mid-year. Consequently, this will ensure continuous, reliable electricity for all citizens. It will also help modernize infrastructure and improve the overall quality of life across Erbil.
