The process of electronic food receipts continues in the Kurdistan Region until September 1, 2025. The Kurdistan Regional Government extended the deadline after reaching an agreement with the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce. Citizens now have a final chance to register without paying a fee.
Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, Director General of Commerce at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, announced the decision. He explained that citizens must complete their registration before the deadline. Starting in September, the ministry will charge 10,000 dinars for new registrations. He added that the KRG continues talks with Baghdad to reduce the cost to 5,000 dinars. He emphasized that this is the last free opportunity.
The government launched the electronic food receipts program on June 1, 2025. Officials first introduced the system during a five-day trial. They then opened it to all provinces. The program has now operated for more than two months, and citizens continue to participate in large numbers.
Statistics show steady progress. Halabja leads with 89% of citizens registering. Erbil follows with 87%, Sulaimani records 85%, and Duhok reaches 81%. Region-wide, participation stands above 85%. Officials credit the high rates to citizen awareness and government outreach.
The KRG views electronic receipts as a tool for modernization. The system increases transparency in food distribution, reduces paperwork, and lowers administrative expenses. It also helps prevent fraud and ensures fairer access to supplies. Citizens benefit from faster service, while the government gains accurate data for planning.
Iraq has not yet launched a nationwide version of the program. This gives the Kurdistan Region a leading role in adopting digital solutions. Officials believe this progress will strengthen food security and expand the use of online services.
Authorities urge citizens to register before September 1. After that date, free registration ends, and fees apply. The extension gives everyone more time, but citizens should not delay.
