Duhok grape production is entering a stronger stage as farmers secure new markets through private sector support. Kavin Company has started collecting grapes from producers across the region. This initiative creates stability for farmers and offers a sustainable path for the agricultural sector.

The Duhok grape production has often faced difficulties. Many farmers lacked steady buyers, which caused waste and financial losses. However, this year brings new confidence. Farmers in areas such as Doskian say the partnership has opened new doors.

Farmer Massoud Adel explained that in past years, he struggled to sell his grapes. Without buyers, cultivation was a heavy burden. Now, he feels encouraged because Kavin purchases the harvest and transforms it into juice and other products. Another farmer, Arif Ahmad, said that previously much of their produce spoiled. This season, he sees positive change and plans to continue grape cultivation.

The General Directorate of Agriculture in Duhok confirmed the scale of this year’s harvest. Director General Ahmad Jamil stated that Duhok grape production will reach around 60,000 tons, even after recent floods. He emphasized that Kavin’s investment shows the importance of private sector participation. He noted that new factories help expand agriculture and create long-term solutions.

Jamil also explained that the Kurdistan Regional Government supports local farmers. He said the government banned grape imports during harvest periods to protect domestic sales. This measure allows farmers to sell their grapes without foreign competition.

Kavin has announced plans to receive about 5,000 tons of grapes from farmers this year. The process will continue until the end of the grape season. By securing large volumes, Kavin ensures both supply for production and income for farmers.

The Duhok grape production is becoming more than a seasonal activity. It reflects a broader strategy to diversify the Kurdistan Region’s economy. With government policy and private investment, agriculture is building new strength beyond oil dependence.
