Taq Taq, a well-known agricultural hub, is witnessing a significant rise in both economic activity and employment as the beans cultivation season reaches its peak. The region is distinguished by its fertile land and abundant water resources, which have contributed to high agricultural productivity, particularly in beans.

Recent reports indicate that 70 tons of beans were delivered to local storage facilities in a single day, with large quantities destined for markets throughout the Kurdistan Region and other parts of Iraq. Actual production is estimated to be higher, as not all farmers bring their crops to centralized warehouses.

Beans are cultivated on approximately 300 to 400 acres in Taq Taq. With over 900 farmers actively engaged in agriculture, the town’s economy relies heavily on this sector. The availability of water from a nearby river and the richness of the soil have enhanced the region’s farming success.

The harvesting season has also opened up employment opportunities for numerous workers, who are paid 300 Iraqi dinars per kilogram of beans harvested. On the same day, beans were sold at 1,500 dinars per kilogram, reflecting strong market demand.

In addition to beans, Taq Taq also yields other high-demand crops such as cucumbers, cabbage, figs, and strawberries. Notably, 20 tons of strawberries were collected in a single day, further highlighting the town’s agricultural diversity.

The flourishing beans cultivation in Taq Taq is not only enhancing food production but also contributing significantly to the local economy through sustained job creation and increased market activity.
