After nearly a decade of waiting, farmers in Erbil who delivered wheat to government silos in 2015 will finally receive their outstanding financial entitlements. The Erbil Silo Directorate announced that Iraq’s Ministry of Trade has officially approved payments that remained unpaid for years.

The directorate called on all farmers who delivered wheat to the Erbil silo in 2015 and have not yet received their full payments to visit the silo administration. This also includes farmers who previously received checks but were unable to cash them due to administrative or banking issues.

In 2015 and 2016, the Iraqi government paid farmers’ financial entitlements in several installments. At the time, most farmers received only partial payments. For example, a farmer owed 30 million Iraqi dinars received the amount in three stages. However, authorities never paid the final installment. As a result, hundreds of farmers waited for years.

According to officials, the issue remained unresolved due to financial and administrative complications. The Erbil Silo Directorate recently submitted official correspondence to the Iraqi Ministry of Trade. The documents showed that authorities had not transferred the remaining funds in previous years. After reviewing the files, the ministry approved the release of the unpaid amounts.

Miran Pashdari, Director of the Erbil Silo, confirmed the development in a statement. He said the approval marks the end of a long-standing financial issue affecting local farmers.

“After we sent official documents to the Iraqi Ministry of Trade and confirmed that the funds were never transferred, the ministry approved the payments and will release the money,” Pashdari said. “Starting Sunday, farmers who have not received their financial entitlements can visit our office to collect their bank checks.”

The document submission process will begin on Sunday, January 25, 2026. It will continue until February 10, 2026. Farmers are required to visit the Erbil Silo Directorate between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. They must bring their previous checks and required documents to complete the process.

Officials expect these long-delayed payments to provide financial relief to farmers. Many have struggled with rising costs and limited support in recent years. Officials say the move also reflects renewed coordination between regional institutions and federal authorities.
