An Iraqi governmental delegation recently traveled to Damascus to engage in discussions with Syrian officials regarding joint security initiatives and the revitalization of energy exports. Key topics included counterterrorism cooperation, enhanced border security, trade facilitation, and the restoration of the oil pipeline extending from Syria to the Mediterranean.
According to official sources, Syria’s leadership expressed a strong willingness to support Iraq’s efforts in these areas. The delegation, headed by Hamid Shatri, emphasized Iraq’s commitment to collaboration and affirmed support for the integrity of Syrian territory.
This visit, conducted on December 26, 2024, marks the second official Iraqi delegation to Syria following the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s government earlier in December. Discussions signal a renewed focus on regional stability and the restoration of critical infrastructure between the two neighboring states.
