The Iraqi Parliament has called on the federal government to commit to sending salaries to public employees in the Kurdistan Region. Lawmakers stressed that these payments must be regular and equal to those provided to employees in other Iraqi provinces. This demand highlights ongoing concerns about financial fairness and stability.
During a recent session, Parliament discussed Iraq’s oil exports through the Turkey–Ceyhan pipeline. The meeting focused on several strategic decisions related to both the oil and financial sectors. Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining stable revenue flows while addressing internal financial obligations.
According to an official statement from the Parliament’s media office, lawmakers approved a key decision. They required the federal government to ensure the payment of salaries to Kurdistan Region public employees in the same manner as other Iraqi workers. This measure aims to promote equality and reduce financial disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.
Parliament also addressed broader reforms. Members called for accelerating the approval of the long-delayed oil and gas law. They urged the government to include the law in its official program and submit it to Parliament for voting. This legislation is considered essential for regulating oil resources and clarifying responsibilities between federal and regional authorities.
In addition, Parliament highlighted the need to improve oil export infrastructure. Lawmakers supported the rehabilitation of the Kirkuk–Fishkhabour–Ceyhan pipeline. Restoring this pipeline would strengthen Iraq’s export capacity and provide alternative routes for delivering oil to global markets.
These decisions reflect Parliament’s effort to balance economic priorities. On one hand, officials aim to ensure fair salary payments across the country. On the other hand, they seek to stabilize the oil sector, which remains Iraq’s main source of revenue.
Overall, the session underlined the importance of cooperation between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region. Lawmakers believe that resolving financial disputes and improving oil management will help strengthen Iraq’s economy and ensure long-term stability.
