The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is finalizing a major strategic water supply project in Erbil, designed to address decades-long water shortages. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the city’s water infrastructure and ensure sustainable access for residents.

Additionally, engineer Blund Hazim, project supervisor, said that nearly 95% of the second phase of Erbil’s water network is complete. This phase spans 430 kilometers, with over 410 kilometers fully implemented. Only 20 kilometers remain, including key sections reaching the airport line and parts of the Bahrka road corridor. Hazim said that once finished, the network will be fully operational, providing essential water services citywide.

Moreover, Raber Hussein, director of Erbil Water, emphasized that the strategic water supply project aims to expand distribution services to all neighborhoods. He added that the network covers existing urban areas and planned districts from the city’s master plan. The project will fully integrate these areas into the water system, helping Erbil’s growth align with modern infrastructure.”

Therefore, the project will deliver up to 480,000 cubic meters of potable water within 24 hours. This guarantees a reliable and continuous supply for households, businesses, and public services. Officials predict that the network will substantially reduce water scarcity and serve Erbil residents for the next 30 years.

Implemented by Kaywan Company, the project is expected to finish within 20 days to one month. Once completed, it will represent one of Erbil’s most ambitious infrastructure achievements, reflecting the KRG’s commitment to urban development and quality of life improvements.

The strategic water network also strengthens the city’s resilience against climate-related challenges and rising population demands. By providing uninterrupted access to clean water, the project ensures that Erbil’s residents can rely on modern, sustainable water services for decades.

In conclusion, the rapid emergency water supply project marks a milestone for Erbil. It expands access, modernizes infrastructure, and delivers long-term relief from water shortages. This initiative highlights the KRG’s proactive approach to planning and building a resilient capital city.
