The General Directorate of Sulaymaniyah Electricity has released detailed data showing that the vast majority of households in the governorate paid modest electricity bills during the latest cycle. Officials said the disclosure aims to address public concerns over rising energy costs and provide clarity about consumption patterns.

The directorate analyzed 362,745 electricity subscribers across east and west Sulaymaniyah. The survey covered the city center, surrounding neighborhoods, and districts including Chwarta, Mawat, Qaradagh, and the subdistrict of Arabat. The results, based on billing from Dec. 20, 2025, to Jan. 20, 2026, indicate that 93% of all subscribers received bills ranging between 1,000 and 100,000 Iraqi dinars. This included accounts across residential, commercial, governmental, industrial, and agricultural sectors.

Officials emphasized that household electricity consumption remains largely affordable. “Claims of inflated or imaginary bills do not apply to residential users,” the authority said, adding that the data provides a transparent view of actual usage.

The statement also addressed exceptionally high charges, which started from over one million dinars and reached up to one billion dinars. The directorate clarified that these bills belong exclusively to large industrial facilities, such as iron and cement factories, major commercial malls, and other high-consumption projects. These figures are unrelated to regular household consumption.

An employee of the General Directorate of Sulaymaniyah Electricity was pictured repairing an electrical box, illustrating ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the power network.

By publishing comprehensive billing data, the authority aims to restore public trust and reassure residents that most Sulaymaniyah households continue to use electricity within reasonable limits. Officials stressed that transparency is crucial for preventing misunderstandings and keeping citizens informed about actual energy consumption patterns, while highlighting the difference between household and large industrial usage.
